The ceiling can fixtures in my modern kitchen are pretty sparse and even the typical flood bulbs don't cover the space very well, instead giving cones of light with definite dark zones. A wide flood (WFL) is necessary to spread the light enough, but then there's a risk of it being too diffuse and not bright enough. These WFL (60 degree) 50W Tru-Aim IR bulbs were recommended to me at a lighting store for this purpose because they are very bright and they do a convincing job, and they do indeed illuminate the entire kitchen. I'm giving them 5 stars because they are the best out there that I have found, but I do have one complaint that they lose a lot of brightness during their life, becoming insufficient to light the kitchen brightly enough long before they actually burn out.
