FireWire 400(IEEE1394a) Cables, 6pin to 4pin - 15 Feet Review
I've had this cable for a few days now, and I'm very pleased with it so far. The length has no effect on the signal strength, it connects very securely to my firewire port and my camera, and the cable is very light and flexible.I've had some issues with noise and banding when using certain longer cables in the past, but I think the double shielding on this cable helps negate that, or perhaps it's just a better quality cable. Whatever the case, I have no such issues with this cable; the image is as crisp and clear as if I were to transfer saved video or photos directly from the SD card.
The connectors are superb! They fit snugly in the ports, and are made in such a way that it feels as though they "click" into place when they've been inserted all the way. This may seem like a minor detail, but it is a breath of fresh air if you've ever dealt with anything less. I've had connectors fit so loosely that they just slip right out of the port with even the slightest amount of tension on the cable. Granted, it's good practice to be aware of the cable and avoid pulling at it, but we've all had accidents or needed to pull back as far as the cable would allow for certain shots. I'm happy I can count on this cable to stay connected should either of situations ever arise.
Flexibility is a detail that is virtually never mentioned in product specifications, and, at least to some people (like myself) it's very important to know. So I wanted to be sure to mention that the flexibility of this cable is prime! It stays where you put it, and it's lightweight keeps it from tugging at the camera if it's hanging to the floor. I bought a different cable before this one, and it was so stiff that it treated my camera like a rag-doll; I could lock the tripod in place, but forget trying to pull off easy pans and tilts. I had to fight the cable to do that. Fortunately I don't have any issues whatsoever with this one. It's nice and lightweight and forgiving.
Overall I have no complaints. I'm very pleased. I could use a couple more feet, but I bought the 15 foot cable. I can't blame the cable for not being longer lol. If you need a 15 foot firewire cable with quality transfer and flexibility, then this is the one.
