This 7 Watt LED light bulb is a fully-competent light bulb. It is rated at 350 lumens and it definitely COOL white - the light is almost pure white. The bulb is a bit heavy, weighing it at 3.7 ounces. For comparison, a CFL is about 3 ounces and an old-fashioned incandescent is only about 1 ounce. Still this is a big improvement over some of the earlier bulky and heavy LED light bulbs that have been working their way on to the market over the past few years.

Despite having some metal ridges along the sides that presumably function as a heat sink to keep the bulb cool, it is still practical. If nothing else you can get a good grip on it to twist it in. The bulb's volume is definitely smaller than a comparable CFL, and appears to be the same size or smaller than an incandescent bulb, so it should fit into any normal light fixture without issues. Most of the light seems to come out of the top rather than the sides, so it would probably be best in an overhead application where the light can shine down. Still it is more omnidirectional than a spotlight-style bulb.

Without making an objective measurement, my impression is that the amount of light coming from the bulb seems to be a tad shy of the 40 watt claim. I would confidently put it in the 35 watt range though. The final downside to this bulb is the cost. Even using only 7 watts of power, compared to 9-13 for a CFL and 40 for an incandescent, it will still take a while to make up the energy costs. It is supposed to last a very long time though, up to 35,000 hours - 35 times that of an incandescent, and more than double that of a CFL.

A pro is that it does not contain mercury, so no special recycling should be required.

Overall, a nice option for lighting that will definitely fit in your fixture and should last a long time with a low operating cost.
