The first one of these I bought came from a hardware store. When it burned out I went to buy another one and they no longer carry it.

Happily Amazon has them, and at a fair price too.

Depending on what I'm doing I want more or less light net at my computer desk. Unfortunately, the 3-way fluorescent lights that I CAN find are in the 50-100-150 (equivalent) range. For me, this is too bright for reading or watching a movie. And the 150 equivalent is far more than I want for doing small projects at the computer desk.

As the picture shows it has a (very) small knob on the side for adjusting the brightness. As I tend to adjust the brightness often I placed a small amount of contact cement inside a replacement rubber eraser such as these Replacement erasers for end of pencils. This gives you something better to hold on to and turn.

Remember, I adjust my light often, so you can skip the eraser tip if you don't want to adjust it often.

Things to be aware of:
* The package says "100W replacement". It's actually more like a 30 to 60 watt replacement. That's fine for me because I do have much brighter lights in the room if I want/need them.
* This is not a conventional incandescent bulb. To screw it in I have to remove the lampshade, screw it in, and CAREFULLY replace the lampshade. On some small lamps that could be a problem.
* The first time that you turn it on it takes a VERY long time (a couple of minutes anyway) to get to full brightness. Afterwards it's faster than many other fluorescent lights that I've owned.

I do wish it was a 30 to 100 Watt equivalent bulb but it does the job for me very well.

Side note *FOR GAMERS* - The lamp it's in, is behind my right shoulder. Regular incandescent lights interfere with my TrackIr 5 Head Tracker. This causes absolutely NO problems at all.
