I often transfer large files between my office computer and a netbook - both running Windows XP - and my home computer which runs Windows Vista. I was looking for a way of doing that transfer directly instead of using email or USB drives as intermediaries. This product caught my attention because it was advertised as "ideal" for such transfers. This turned out to be deceptive.

This product was designed with a single purpose in mind - a one time file transfer from an "old" Windows XP machine to a "new" Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine. If you want to transfer files the other way, this product simply will not do it. This seems to be the fault of the software that comes with the product and also is a part of Windows Vista and does not allow two way transfers. This rather serious limitation is not stated in the product's description.

What is more, to transfer files by this cable, you must shut down all running applications on both machines. This is a rather serious inconvenience for something as simple as transferring a few files. It is not necessary to shut down any programs when saving files to a USB drive. Describing this process as "easy" is yet another instance of deceptive advertising.

It also seems that myopic visionaries at Microsoft missed the boat again and failed to design software allowing a seemingly simple task of direct file transfer between two computers.

In sum - a piece of junk of very limited usefulness. Do not waste your money on it.
