I bought this to use my PS3 with my HP promo monitor since they werent directly compatible. I tried a few cheaper hdmi converters but they weren't direct hdmi to hdmi and didnt work for me, this is the only one I found that met my needs. Its expensive, I suppose cos it seems to basically be a small self contained video card, I'm not convinced that it's not overpriced. But it was exactly what I needed so I coughed up anyway.

Downside is that it refuses to display in 1080p even tho my monitor is high enough resolution for it. The device makes a text display on the top left of the screen showing the input and output resolutions. There's a button that cycles thru these upscaling/downscaling conversion options, an on/off switch, and a red power indicator led. It has its own wall wart power plug that is vertical and narrow, so it doesnt block any outlets on my power strip.

Primary use is for upscaling to 720p or 1080p. I havent figured out how to get my PS3 signal to work in 1080p, the device shows that the input signal is 1080p but then always outputs 720p. Its possible that the problem is my screen, not this device, but I doubt it. Especially when this product claims to work with ANY SCREEN. Untrue. However the 720p works excellently, signal is clear, so that's why I haven't yet bothered to deal with customer service headaches to solve this.

I wish it had a sleep mode, when your device is off, this converter keeps the monitor awake and displays a glaring blue connection lost screen, so I have to turn the monitor off manually.
So it does work fine for my needs, but minus 2 stars for lack of sleep mode, high price, and inability to output 1080p for some unknown reason.
