COMPAQ MOBCL Cooling Fan Review

i bought some of these for potentially cooling some home audio components in a rack system, assuming the Compaq name would offer some insurance against them being garbage. oops.

1. the blades are cloth about as thick as a sheet of paper
2. effective wind range on this is about 6"
3. the weight of the head unit is such that is slowly falls down/over without support when running - it's not staying anywhere without tape!
4. this has the worst noise-to-wind ratio i've ever experienced - the motor is stupidly loud
5. the fan head transfers serious vibrations all the way down the shaft into your USB port and/or computer. it would probably be a better massager than a fan, in terms of transferred vibration.
6. the copyright on the instructions is 2003, and there is no notation of watts/amps used
7. i wouldn't trust this plugged into any computer or other valuable electronics.

Maxlite 31523 - SKM14EGDL Globe Screw Base Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb Review

The bulbs are different from the ones in product pictures. The base is much larger, and it is not curved as the one on the picture. This is a bit of a problem because the base is very visible when the bulb is in the socket and it moves the bulb's center of mass further away from the socket, putting more stress on the whole assembly. In my sockets, the bulb slumps down just a bit under its weight.

The other problem is the buzz that the bulbs produce. It is very quiet, but certainly noticeable. It does not bother me much, but for people who get annoyed by such things this will be a deal breaker.

The final negative is that one of the 4 bulbs I purchased has expired just after a few months of operation. Very disappointing.

At the same time I bought these, I purchased 4 other bulbs from an external web site (search for "FC15-FEG30A15W5" on google). Both brands produce similar pleasant light not clearly distinguishable to me. The MaxLite bulbs certainly come to full lightning power almost immediately while the other bulbs take about a minute to reach the full power.

All in all, I will not be buying these bulbs in the future. The base is too large, and the buzz is another problem. I will miss the short time they take to come to full power.
